Here are some of the best bars in the city to visit for an authentic and memorable time during your visit to Tampa.
When you think of an establishment with a roof deck bar, your expectations of the place automatically go up – and for good reason. Tampa’s Fly Bar definitely doesn’t disappoint. Watch the sunset here while enjoying a Fly Sangria cocktail or a selection from the lengthy beer and wine list.
Just north of Swann Avenue is The Lodge, another hotspot that always seems to be teeming with life. The Lodge has two main components to it – sports bar by day and bustling club at night. Depending on the type of atmosphere you desire, coming to The Lodge definitely won’t disappoint. Come here for the Wednesday night DJ night and for the Maxmosas – a giant mimosa with a mini bottle of champagne included in the drink.
In downtown Tampa’s International Plaza is Blue Martini, an upscale club and lounge that has nightly entertainment and drink specials every night of the week. Every night is a new theme at Blue Martini, but the excellent quality of the 42 different martinis offered here remain the same.
Right on the water in downtown, The SAIL is nestled in the middle of the Tampa Convention Center. The location of the Pavilion is perfect for any tourist, walking distance from many of the downtown locations and the Channelside district. Food trucks also visit the bar frequently which will perfectly compliment any beer or cocktail enjoyed on the Riverwalk.
With a charming “dive” appearance and welcoming atmosphere, Skipper’s Smokehouse is a hidden gem of Tampa Bay. This place has a casual vibe and great history; it was purchased in 1980 by three Air Force comrades. Come here for the famous “Skipperdome,” a large backyard concert area under massive oak trees that is home to live music six nights a week.
In the heart of the historic Ybor District, New World Brewery boasts a wonderful array of drinks and live music from up-and-coming bands from all around the nation. Happy Hour runs every day until 8:00 p.m. and the BBQ entrees compliment any drink you have perfectly on a night out.
MacDinton’s is another party bar off South Howard that never runs out of ways to keep customers having a great experience. This Irish pub is Tampa’s home to watching all international and national soccer games as well as rugby. Private and group parties are welcomed here, but solo travelers will be welcomed by the nightly drink specials and live music.
With its classic two dollars “shot and a beer” special, Gaspar’s Grotto is a local favorite in Tampa. The pirate themed bar has a lovely and spacious outside gallery for socializing and enjoying drinks from any of the three themed bars at the establishment – aptly named the grotto, sandbar and the galley.
